Homework vs.’home’ work

Being a part time graphic design student along with other roles means I have to find ways of being two people at once; designer and mum.

Ive been trying to do my homework (design work) along with ‘home’ work. This week I managed to combine trip to Ikea to buy essentials (a shelf, lightbulbs, lamp, some frames, mandatory tealights) but also formed part of the research into pattern. Ikea is one of the leaders for mass produced and commercially applied patterns  within homeware. They’re an indicator of the current thinking and trends.

Its helped me look at broad categories. I have noticed most designs fall into geometric shapes, organic subjects, and everything else which I’m calling illustrations.

Examples of the range of pattern design at Ikea.
